Questions

About the site

What is APTypingTest?

APTypingTest is a typing practice site for Indian government exam typing tests: SSC (CHSL, CGL), Railways (RRB NTPC), Defence (CRPF, CISF), DSSSB, and High Court and Supreme Court posts, in English and Hindi. Every exam has its own time limit, target speed and rules, so you practise the way you will be tested.

Do I need an account?

You can open the site and try a test without one. Create a free account to save your results under your own login (so you can see your progress graph and history on any device) and to buy a plan. Each student sees only their own results.

Does it work on a phone?

The pages open on a phone, but typing tests are meant for a computer with a physical keyboard, because that is how the real exam is taken. For serious practice, use a laptop or desktop.

Free and paid plans

What is free and what is paid?

Free: Quick Practice tests (1, 5, 10 and 15 minutes, English and Hindi), the full-screen exam room for every exam with 2 fixed sample passages per exam, and the detailed evaluation sheet on those 2 passages. Paid: every passage of every exam in Easy, Medium and Hard, with the detailed evaluation sheet on all of them. See the Pricing page.

Why are the free passages the same every time?

So that you can judge the site fairly. The 2 free passages for each exam are fixed, not random, so you can practise on them, improve, and compare your results. A paid plan opens the full set.

Does my plan renew by itself?

No. Plans are one-time payments (Monthly 30 days, 6 Months, 1 Year). Nothing is charged again unless you buy again. The end date of your plan is shown on your Account page. Payments are handled securely by Razorpay (UPI, cards, net banking). Please read our Refund policy before you buy.

Which plan should I pick?

Preparing for one exam for a month or two: Monthly. Several months of regular practice: 6 Months. More than one exam, or a long preparation: 1 Year gives the lowest cost per month.

Taking a test

How does an exam test work?

Pick an exam and you first see a setup screen where you can choose your passage mode and font size. Press the gold Start Test button and a full-screen exam room opens. Read the instructions, press Start when you are ready, and type the passage. Your timer begins with your first key. Press Submit when you are done, or the test ends by itself when the time is over.

What are Easy, Medium and Hard passages?

Every passage is rated by how hard it is to type: word length, rare words, numbers and punctuation. Easy passages use short, common words. Hard passages have long legal or technical words, figures and punctuation, like the toughest real exam passages. Paid plans let you choose the level.

Why did the test open in full screen? How do I leave it?

The full-screen room copies the real exam screen so there are no distractions. Pressing Esc leaves full screen but your test continues. The room closes automatically when you submit or the time is over.

What is the difference between Quick Practice and an exam test?

Quick Practice is a free warm-up with no target, where you type over the words and see your speed, with topics of your choice. Exam tests follow one exam’s rules: its time, target speed, backspace rule and mistake limits, and use passages made for that exam. Quick Practice never uses the passages kept for the exams.

Can I use Backspace?

It depends on the exam, as in the real tests. Some exams allow it freely, some allow it only inside the word you are typing (once you press space, the earlier words are locked), and some do not allow it at all. The rules of your exam are shown in View Instructions and also in the exam room.

Speed, mistakes and results

How is my speed calculated?

Every 5 characters, including spaces, count as one word. Gross speed is all the words you typed per minute. Net speed is gross speed after the exam’s mistake rule is applied, so clean typing scores higher. For exams with a target speed, if you submit before the time is over without finishing the passage, your speed is counted over the full test time. Typing 21 words in 10 seconds does not count as a very fast test.

How are mistakes counted?

Your typed words are matched with the passage word by word. A wrong, missing or extra word is a full mistake. In many exams a wrong capital letter or punctuation mark is only a half mistake. A skipped word costs one mistake and the rest of the text still lines up. The result page lists your missed keys, the words you got wrong and the types of mistakes.

What does PASSED or FAILED mean?

It shows whether you reached the exam’s target speed and stayed inside its mistake or accuracy limit. In exams with a strict accuracy rule (for example 97% in Supreme Court JCA), going even slightly below the limit means FAILED. This is practice scoring, so use it to find your weak points.

Are the rules the same as the real exam?

They are practice settings, built from the exam notifications as best we can. Each recruitment board can change its software, scoring and speed targets in any year, so always check the latest official notification for the exact rules. Where a rule is not confirmed, the exam page says so.

Hindi typing

How do I type in Hindi?

Hindi tests use your computer’s own Hindi keyboard, such as Inscript or Remington (Mangal font text). Switch to Hindi before you start (on Windows press Windows + Space). If you do not have the keyboard, each Hindi test page explains how to add it on Windows, Mac and phones.

Is Kruti Dev supported?

Not yet. The Hindi tests use Unicode (Mangal) text. If your exam uses Kruti Dev, practise the keyboard layout on a Hindi Unicode keyboard for now.

Your data and help

Is my data safe?

Your results are saved under your own login and other students cannot see them. We never see your password. You can delete your account and its data from the Account page. Read the Privacy Policy for details.

What is paper to screen mode?

Some exams (for example the Punjab and Haryana District Courts test) give you a printed paragraph and ask you to type it on the screen. In this mode the passage is hidden by default. Download or print it, then type from the paper.

I have a problem or a suggestion. Who do I contact?

Use the Contact page. Please mention the exam name and what you saw, and attach a screenshot if you can. It helps us fix the issue quickly.
